Bill Springer of Cruising World magazine drove up from Boston. Governor came from Augusta along with representatives from both Senator Snowe's and Collins' offices. A representative from Congressman Michaud's office arrived from Bangor. All to celebrate and honor Morris Yachts' winning Cruising World Magazine's Boat of the Year Bristol Award for the beautiful M52.

Bill Springer explained that the contest has been going on since 1992 and Morris has one 6 times - and winning for every cruising boat entered.

Maine Gov. John E. Baldacci recently signed into law a provision that ensures non-resident boaters will pay less in sales tax on boat purchases in the state.

The new law, which takes effect Aug. 1, significantly reduces the amount of Maine sales tax that will need to be paid by non-residents who choose to purchase and keep a boat in Maine, the Maine Marine Trades Association reports.

Eric Roos, Wythe Ingebritson and Prent Weathers report that the Miami event was a huge success. The only thing that could have been better was the weather! Cold and windy conditions but plenty of sun too. The location of the Shake a Leg Sailing center was ideal for our event, and the folks running the facility are extremely helpful. Cuyler Morris, President of Morris Yachts, was pleased to accept yet another Boat of the Year Award. This time the award is for the new M52. The M52 won Cruising World Magazine’s Boat of the Year Bristol Award, rarely given out and only when a boat cannot be categorized but exceeds expectations and demands to be recognized. The company was notified on Tuesday, December 15th.
