Spring is coming! Daylight Savings begins this month on the 14th and Spring officially arrives on the 20th! And with the Maine Boatbuilders Show in Portland Maine March 19th-21 (please come see us!) and St. Patrick’s Day, there is a lot to get excited about this month. Best of all, it is time to think about getting your boat out of storage or out of the yard and back in the water where it belongs.

Glendon Stanley, our esteemed Morris Service Paint/Varnish Supervisor, recently exemplified (once again) the true spirit of Morris Yachts by participating in a joint project with MDI High School by volunteering as a mentor to their Senior Exhibition Project.

You had planned on sailing for a couple of weekends but work, social and family obligations are going to keep you away from your boat for a bit longer than planned. While she will probably be fine laying on her mooring or at the dock, there a few things you can do to have her ready to go when you return.

One of the most stunning elements of your Morris Yacht is the contoured varnished teak trim. When properly maintained, glistening teak preserves the boat’s value and is a source of pride.

When an owner is commissioning his boat for the season, the standing and running rigging on the mast are naturally a high priority. The lifelines, however, are often just given a quick look to note that the pieces are all there. Once the boat is launched the owner often plans to do a more thorough check of the lifeline system but in the excitement of the preparations for the first sail the inspection is often forgotten or put off until the next time out on the boat, or the next time, or maybe forgotten altogether until an accident happens to the owner or crew.

To say that things are quiet in Northeast Harbor in the winter would be the understatement of the year, but two events in February have helped keep the staff here busy and certainly added some life to our otherwise sleepy yard.

Lexington is a Morris 46 owned by Bob Woods hailing from Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington is undergoing a deck refit.

Annie Laurie is a Cape Dory 35 owned by Joe Wysong and Molly Rawle of Gouldsboro, Maine. This winter Annie Laurie is getting a new Yanmar to replace the existing Universal.
