And with the Maine Boatbuilders Show in Portland Maine March 19th-21 (please come see us!) and St. Patrick’s Day, there is a lot to get excited about this month. Best of all, it is time to think about getting your boat out of storage or out of the yard and back in the water where it belongs.

Lifelines -The forgotten rigging

When an owner is commissioning his boat for the season, the standing and running rigging on the mast are naturally a high priority. The lifelines, however, are often just given a quick look to note that the pieces are all there. Once the boat is launched the owner often plans to do a more thorough check of the lifeline system but in the excitement of the preparations for the first sail the inspection is often forgotten or put off until the next time out on the boat, or the next time, or maybe forgotten altogether until an accident happens to the owner or crew.
