Morris 46 RS
Morris Yachts and designer Chuck Paine developed a center cockpit design for the traditional and very popular Morris 46. The traditional good looks and spaciousness of the aft cockpit Morris 46 lent itself perfectly for this adaptation and the differences are worth noting. This raised salon deck version dramatically increased the interior layout possibilities.
The interior of the 46RS is Herreshoff-styled with cherry trim and satin varnish. At the bow is a watertight bulkhead, separating the chain and forepeak locker from the forward cabin and accessible from a large deck hatch. The spacious forward cabin included luxurious Swedish foam berths, lots of storage, with an especially large storage space under the berths, combined with a private access to a roomy forward head and shower. The large and open main salon is furnished with comfortable settees and an extended drop leaf trestle table that seats eight. The raised salon allowed the cabin sole to be raised in the main cabin providing excellent visibility through large salon windows. Turning from the navigation station and passing the large companionway into the galley, one can’t help but notice how nice it is to have a panoramic view through the starboard side salon windows that extend the entire length of the galley.
The Morris Yachts 46RS was a wonderful blend of modern styling, traditional high-quality finish, and excellent sailing performance.
